Natural Bark Finish Chestnut Thumbstick Hiking Stick
The Natural Bark Finish Chestnut Thumbstick Hiking Stick is a very traditional long stick, loved by country people. It's called a 'thumbstick' because of the natural 'V' in the handle, which is comfortable to hold with one's thumb resting in the 'V'. The stick is made from chestnut wood, a favourite for rustic sticks, and is fitted with an innovative combi ferrule that makes the cane suitable for both hard and soft surfaces.

Country Hiking Stick
As most country walking sticks, the Bark Finish Chestnut Thumbstick is taller than an everyday cane and comes with a specially designed ferrule for a safe grip on soft and muddy surfaces. Unlike most, however, this stick features a naturally shaped thumbstick handle and an intriguing, textured finish.
Traditional Thumbstick Handle
A thumbstick handle is one of the most classic British handles and features the naturally occurring V-shape. With the thumb resting in the middle and the fingers clasped around the stick, thumbsticks provide additional support and balance.
Chestnut Wood
Chestnut wood is known for its strength and durability, but also for its beautifully texture that makes this Natural Bark Thumbstick stand out from the crowd. Usually the bark is removed from chestnut walking sticks, but in this case it has been left on to give the cane a more interesting appearance and structure.
Combi Ferrule
This Wooden Thumbstick features a combi ferrule, which means that there is a rubber ferrule fitted over a spiked one. This way, the staff can safely be used on both hard and soft surfaces, making it ideal for diverse hiking terrain.
Can I Replace the Ferrule?
Yes, if your rubber ferrule becomes worn, you can remove the fitted ferrule and replace it with a new one. As this is a natural product, we recommend measuring the end of your stick to determine which size is right for your stick. For information on how to measure your stick, we recommend reading our article on How to Measure Your Walking Stick for a Ferrule.
